What is within reach of the Grand Palace
The Grand Palace stands in the old Rattanakosin district on the east bank of the Chao Phraya. Most things to do near the Grand Palace are a walk or a short boat ride away. Wat Pho lies just to the south, Wat Arun faces it across the river, and the open field of Sanam Luang sits next to the palace walls.
Each place charges its own entry or none at all, and there is no shared ticket. A palace ticket is THB 500 (2026), Wat Pho is THB 300 and Wat Arun is THB 200 for foreign adults. Together that is THB 1,000. If you want a guide to link the temples for you, look at the Grand Palace guided tours or the Grand Palace and Wat Pho combo tour.

The temples next door
Two famous sites, one on each side of the river.
Wat Pho
Wat Pho is a separate temple south of the palace. Its reclining Buddha is 46 m long and 15 m high. Entry is THB 300, so a visit to the palace and Wat Pho comes to THB 800 in 2026, with no combined ticket. From Sanam Chai MRT it is about 5 minutes on foot. Do not apply that short time to the palace gate, which is further away. Our Wat Pho combo page explains the route in detail.
Wat Arun
Wat Arun stands on the Thonburi bank, opposite Wat Pho. Foreign adults pay THB 200, and the temple is open daily from 08:00 to 18:00. A cross-river ferry runs between the Tha Tien pier on the Wat Pho side and the temple. Ferry fares and timetable change, so ask at the pier. The Chao Phraya boat page covers the other river options.
Wat Phra Kaew
The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is part of the palace and is covered by the palace ticket. Read the Emerald Buddha guide before you go.
Open space, markets and the riverside
Places to rest between temples.
Sanam Luang
This public field lies between the Grand Palace and the Front Palace. It also serves for ceremonies, so it is not always open for strolling. Drones, smoking and alcohol are not allowed there.
Pak Khlong Talat
The flower market is open 24 hours a day and is busiest before sunrise. Exit 4 of Sanam Chai MRT is close by. Individual stalls keep their own hours.
Tha Maharaj
A riverside complex with restaurants and shops at 1/11 Trok Mahathat, Maharaj Road. Hours are 10:00 to 21:00 or 10:00 to 22:00, so check before a late meal. It is a handy place to sit down after the temples.

Museums and a show for the palace ticket
Indoor options for a hot or wet afternoon.
Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles
It is included in the THB 500 palace ticket. Visiting the museum on its own costs THB 150 for adults. It is open daily from 09:00 to 16:30, with last entry at 15:30.
Khon performance
Foreign visitors can show their palace ticket at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. Shows are normally Monday to Friday at 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00 and last 25 minutes. A one-way shuttle leaves the Phiman Deves Gate 30 minutes before each show. Without a palace ticket, a theatre ticket costs THB 400 per person. Some days have no show, so check before you plan around it.
Museum Siam
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on Monday. Adult entry is THB 100 to 200 at the museum. Visitors under 15 and from 60 years up enter free.
Arts of the Kingdom Museum
This museum is not on the palace grounds. It is in Bang Pa-in, Ayutthaya province, and opens Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 15:30. A free shuttle with advance booking runs on those days from 12 August to 26 December 2026, leaving at 11:00 opposite the Wiman Thewet Gate. It makes a full day trip.
A one-day route near the Grand Palace
The order that saves the most walking.
Morning: the palace
Be at the gate when it opens at 08:30. Check the closure calendar first, as described on our opening hours page, and see the ticket guide for prices.
Midday: Wat Pho and lunch
Walk south to Wat Pho, then eat at Tha Maharaj or near the pier. Ignore strangers who say the palace is closed and offer a tuk-tuk tour; the scam page explains the trick.
Afternoon: across the river
Take the ferry to Wat Arun. If you still have energy, stay for the evening light, since the temple closes at 18:00.
Arrival options are on the getting there page.
Near the Grand Palace: frequently asked questions
Can I walk from the Grand Palace to Wat Pho?
Yes. Wat Pho lies just south of the palace, so it is an easy walk. Expect separate tickets: THB 500 for the palace and THB 300 for Wat Pho in 2026.
How do I get from Wat Pho to Wat Arun?
Take the cross-river ferry from the Tha Tien pier on the Wat Pho side. The crossing takes a few minutes. Check the fare and the timetable at the pier.
Is there one ticket for the palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun?
No. Each place charges separately: THB 500, THB 300 and THB 200 for foreign adults in 2026. Guided tours may bundle the visits, but check what the price includes.
What can I see near the palace on a rainy day?
The Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles is part of the palace ticket, and Museum Siam is in the same area. Both are indoors. Museum Siam is closed on Monday.
Is this the official site of the Grand Palace?
No. This is an independent guide. It is not run by the palace, the Bureau of the Royal Household or the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Use the palace's own channels for closure notices.
